It’s a new step forward for the Google Chrome development team, as they released the first build for version 18 for the Google browser. The new Google Chrome Dev 18.0.1003.1 integrates an updated version of the JavaScript engine (V8 3.8.4.1) and a set of fixes and improvements that affect all supported platforms: Windows, Mac, Linux, and Chrome Frame. Changes particular only to Windows and Linux are also available.

Some of the most important modifications touch on profile synchronization, which now includes name and avatar photo. The list of fixes loaded into this version refers to page zoom for plug-in documents and a regression with extension omnibox API where whitespace would get trimmed.

On the same note, weak RSA and DSA keys are now rejected when validating certificate chains for HTTPS.

The more important Windows-specific repairs refer to the way popups opened from a maximized window and hiding panels when full-screen app starts.

Among numerous fixes and improvements, Google Chrome 18 fixes an important startup issue with the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 operating system and its derivatives.

Another interesting fix in Google Chrome 18 is about Native Client applications, which should now work on Linux distributions like Gentoo, where /dev/shm is mounted with the "noexec" option.

Download Google Chrome 18.0.1003.1 right now. Remember that this is a development release and it should not be installed on production manchines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
